Webspace Support
These are the folders you will see once you ftp into your web space. Below
explains the function of each folder.
1) cgi-bin
This is where you upload any cgi scripts that you intend to run on your
website. Ensure you are aware of the relevant permissions that must be
applied to the executable and writable scripts, which are generally detailed
in the readme or installation files accompanying any public domain scripts.
2) error_docs
This folder contains template error files that you can download and customise
accordingly. Do not rename these files. Make a backup of the files you
download before making any changes and then reupload them back in place.
3) httpdocs
This the root web folder for your domain. Your content is uploaded into
this folder, and into any subfolders you may have of the structured copy
of your domain. Please be sure to always maintain a current backup copy
of all your data locally. The webstats folder should be ignore from within
your FTP folder. It contains the information you will be presented with
via Webalyzer from within your Control Panel. You would overwrite the
index.php file within the httpdocs folder with your own home/index page.
4) httpsdocs
The httpsdocs folder is for the storage of pages that require SSL encryption.
These pages would appear in the format: https://www.yourdomain.com/securepage.html
5) logs
This folder contains your raw log files. Those who wish to analyse their
raw logs may do so. Webalizer gleans the bulk of its information from
these files. They should not be removed or altered on the server in any
manner or the risk of destroying statistics is introduced.
6) web_users
Web Users, created in your control panel, are users who you provide dedicated
resources to within your domain. They receive a subfolder of the web_users
folder. They may, for example, publish a personal homepage to this folder
if you provide them with the approriate resources. This advanced feature
is covered in depth in the Plesk documentation or may be experimented
with via the online Plesk demo. A glossary of the features of your Control
Panel follows. On every page, the Help button at the bottom right hand
corner is sensitive to the page you are viewing, and when clicked will
pop up a Help screen containing information about the options you are
currently viewing.
